KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A tough season on the hardwood ended in equally tough fashion Monday for Allen Community College.

The Red Devils saw host Kansas City Kansas hit a trio of 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds, falling behind 9-0.

The top-seeded Blue Devils didn’t look back from there, cruising to a 106-55 victory in the first round of the Region VI playoffs.

Decimated by injuries for much, if not all, of the season, Allen ends with a 10-21 record.

Even after the slow start, the Red Devils stayed within touch through much of the first half.

Danta Jackson’s 3-pointer with 8:22 left pulled ACC to within 31-20.

But Kansas City responded with another 10-point outburst, pulling ahead 41-20 with 5:23 left before intermission.

With only eight healthy bodies on the roster, Allen struggled from the field, hitting only 16 of 64 field goals (25%) and 5 of 25 3-pointers (20%).

Conversely, KCK shot 51% from the field and hit 13 treys.

Grayson Ryan scored 14 points to lead Allen, followed by David Teele with 13 and Randy Crosby with 10. Dirk Johnson pulled down five rebounds to go with two steals. Teele also had three assists.

Allen played without the services of Killian Jackson, who had emerged as one of the team’s leading scorers this season, but was injured late in the regular season finale Wednesday against Labette.

Six other players on Allen’s roster did not play much, if at all, this season due to injury under first-year head coach Patrick Nee.

BJ Stewart scored 22 and Reginald Morris 21 for Kansas City, which moves on to play Fort Scott at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson County Community College in the Region VI  semifinals.

The winner will play either Highland or Johnson County at 4 p.m. Saturday at JCCC for a berth in the NJCAA-Division II National Tournament.
