The Allen Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams continued their impressive 2022 campaign on Saturday with victories over Metropolitan.
After the women’s team (4-1) began the day shutting out Metropolitan, 4-0, the men’s team (4-0-1) reached the back of the net nine times in a 9-3 romp.
Women’s Soccer
Lady Red Devils head coach Jeremy McGinnis has been emphasizing one thing this season: shutouts. That’s exactly what his team did against Metropolitan as well as the match before against Northeastern Oklahoma when they won, 9-0.
Allen limited the Wolves to only five shots on goal, all of which were stopped by goalkeeper Daniela Gonzalez.
On the other end, Allen was able to foot 13 shots on goal.
“We live for shutouts and have a passion for that and the fact the other team couldn’t even get into the game,” said McGinnis. “For the most part our back line has settled down. Kate (Giblin) has just been an amazing player and a leader back there. She commands the back line well, she cares so much.”
The Red Devils got on the board three times in the opening half beginning on a Jessica Allen unassisted goal 20 minutes into regulation. Only three minutes later, Claudia Zahui found the back of the net on an Allen assist for the 2-0 advantage.
With one minute remaining in the first half, Allen was able to make it a three-goal lead when Vivian Frota dos Santos received a pass from Autumn Wyatt. She proceeded to finish at the goal for the score.
Rebecca Lord sealed the victory with 10 minutes remaining in the second half when she took a Hannah Meadwell pass to the net.
The Lady Red Devils play at Western Wyoming Community College on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Men’s Soccer
It didn’t look pretty early for the Red Devils men’s soccer team, as the Wolves netted the first goal before Allen was able to get on the board. Allen’s Yuki Ikezaki made it a 1-1 game when he took an unassisted ball to the back of the net.
Ikezaki was also able to score the ninth goal for his Red Devils but seven other Allen men’s soccer players also scored goals in the win. Temesgn Tezera dribbled in for the next goal for another unassisted goal. This was followed by Steven Gallimore’s score off a Gustavo Guarnier assist for the 3-1 advantage.
Next, Leonardo Andognini took an unassisted ball to the back of the net for the 4-1 lead. This was followed by another Metropolitan goal to cut the Allen lead in half at 4-2.
Then Red Devil Patrick Alouidor scored a goal near the end of the first half off a Kananelo Motaung assist to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Shortly after, Motaung found the back of the goal following an Alouidor pass for the 6-2 advantage.
The final two goals for the Red Devils came off the feet of Romario Tomlinson and Boikaego Mbaakanyi to secure the six goal victory.
Allen goalkeeper Samuel Montanez made seven saves in his start in the net while Alvaro Lopez also saw some action making two saves.
