HS Golf:
Iola golf competed at Pittsburg on Monday and experienced more growing pains. All five of the golfers shot above a 100.
Despite the struggle, both Grant Luedke and Josh Kaufman continued to improve shooting a 110 and 115 respectively.
It was encouraging to see Josh and Grant putting up better scores than in the first meet at Independence, head coach Nick McAnulty said. This was only their second high school meet, and Grant improved by 24 strokes, and Josh improved by 8 strokes at a more difficult course. I think as they become more accustomed to the high school level of golf that we will start seeing them putting up scores that they are happy with.
Senior Nic Zimmerman continued to struggle, not playing the way he would like, but McAnulty said he did hit some good shots and improved his control on the ball a bit even if his score didnt show it.
Jeremy Waldman shot a 114 after being the only Mustang at their first meet to shoot under 100.
Waldman struggled today with the driver and that really hurt his score, McAnulty said. Thats not something that he normally struggles with, and I am confident that he will work very hard to have it fixed before the next tournament.
Matt Miller shot a 135 in his first ever high school golf tournament. McAnulty said he was encouraged that he improved his score moving from the first nine to the second.
Up next, the Mustang varsity team will head south to Parsons.
