The Iola Middle School Mustangs picked up a trio of wins while hosting the Wellsville Eagles Monday night.
The eighth grade Mustangs provided a fitting finale to the proceedings with a 47-32 victory.
The eighth grade junior varsity won 32-13 and the seventhgrade JV won 18-16.
The seventh grade varsity took the only loss of the evening in a 33-27 heartbreaker to Wellsville.
Aside from an Eagles’ flare in the third quarter, the Iola eighth-graders were in control from the first whistle.
Four Mustangs almost reached double digits in scoring.
Jaxen Mueller and Milo Franklin got hot in the first quarter with a pair of buckets each. The Mustangs were up 16-8 in the first quarter with five players contributing.
As the Eagles focused on stopping Franklin, Jayson Dorius added a pair of buckets in the paint whileTy Thomas provided steady production throughout the contest. 
Wellsville rallied in the third quarter, pulling within two scores in the fourth quarter, but Iola pulled away with Franklin and Cade Curry combining for 10 points off back-to-back 3-pointers.
Franklin had a team-leading 11 points, followed by Curry with 10, Mueller with nine and Thomas with seven. With the win, the Mustangs remain undefeated at 2-0.
Seventh-grade varsity comes up short
Iola’s only loss of the evening came after Wellsville pulled ahead before halftime.
The Mustangs and Eagles opened the contest with a slugfest as both teams put up double digits before Iola slumped in the second quarter.
Matthew Holding kept the Mustangs alive early with a trio of buckets while Greyson Skahan and Colton Hall contributed with a bucket each.
Skahan and Landon Desmarteau, who had a team-leading 10 points, added 3 points each in the second quarter, but it was not enough to keep up with Wellsville.
Skahan had 7 points, followed by Holding with six, then Hall and Max Ebberts with a bucket each. With the loss, the Mustangs fall to 1-1.
