BURLINGTON — The Iola Middle School Mustangs opened the 2026 wrestling season with a fifth-place finish at Tuesday’s 27th annual Cat Classic Middle School Tournament at Burlington High School.

Mustangs Daegan Rodriguez, 180 lbs., Jaxson Bernsten, heavyweight, Rueben Scroggins, 132 lbs., took first place while going undefeated in their debut matches.

Scroggins opened with a second-period pin of Bluestem’s Alden Brothers, then pinned Prairie View’s Kellerman Darion and wrapped up the night with a first-period pin of Jaxon Kvas of Burlington.
