The Iola Mustangs pulled in seven All-Pioneer League football honors after a 3-6 2018 season.

Iola’s lone first-team selection was senior Nic Zimmerman who earned a spot on both the offensive and defensive line. Zimmerman ended the year with 57 tackles, nine tackles for loss and an interception. Zimmerman also anchored an offensive line that led the way for the Mustang offense to gain 522 passing yards and 1,938 rushing yards this season.

Fellow senior offensive and defensive lineman Mathew Karr earned second-team honors on both lines after 35 tackles, eight tackles for loss and one sack this season.

Sophomore running back Isaac Badders was named to the second team after rushing for 943 yards at a clip of 5.8 yards per carry, scoring six touchdowns this season while losing just four fumbles.

Junior Casen Barker earned second-team honors at linebacker after leading the Mustangs with 67 tackles to go along with seven tackles for loss and two sacks. He also had an interception.

Junior Pieter Venter rounded out the Mustang selections after another solid season at kicker. Venter went 19-21 on extra points and missed his only field goal.

The Mustangs lose 10 seniors off of the 2018 team but return lots of young talent for next year including the addition of this year’s eighth-graders who recently wrapped up an undefeated middle school campaign.
