The Allen Community College men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season while competing against a pair of Dallas-based teams over the weekend.
After opening the day with a 2-2 tie with Dallas College Mountain View, the Red Devils picked up their first win, 5-2, over Cedar Valley College.
“It was a great trip for us,” Allen assistant coach Temesgn Tezera said. “Those games showed us that we have some things to work on and a lot of positives to be happy about as a team. We’re taking it one game at a time.”
After closing the first half of the opener in a 2-0 hole, the Red Devils rallied in the second on a pair of goals by defenders Gonzalo Lopez and Jeohvah Djimtotinine.
After allowing two goals in the opening half, keeper Gabriel Nunez settled in the second half to keep Mountain View scoreless with a pair of saves.
In the second game, goalkeeper Harry Patrick shut out Cedar Valley with three saves over 90 minutes.
As Patrick maintained the shutout, the Red Devils got on the scoreboard quickly on a shot from forward Sebastian Fekete off an assist from defender Josh Hunte just 2 minutes into the match.
After leading 1-0 for most of the contest the Red Devils secured the victory on a pair of goals in quick succession. Forward Alex Almede gave Allen a 2-0 lead at the 87-minute mark on an assist from midfielder Saviola Blake.
The Red Devils sealed the win with another goal from Fekete just a minute later on an assist from Lopez.
With the win, the Red Devils improve to 1-0-1 and return to the pitch Wednesday, when they host Crowder College for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
