ARMA — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s girls had a couple of nailbiters on their hands Thursday.
The Wildcat A team emerged with a 23-21 victory, while Northeast eked out an 11-10 victory in the B team matchup.
Four Wildcats scored in the fourth quarter of the A team game, evidence of the team’s balanced scoring attack.
Mercedes McKinnis and Annabell Green both had eight points for the victors. They also had field goals down the stretch. Jetta Mathews scored her only bucket in the fourth quarter. Emma Louk had three points, including a clutch free throw down the stretch. Clara Ferguson chipped in with two.
The host Vikings led 9-2 after the first quarter of the two-quarter B team game before Marmaton Valley came storming back.
Reagan Marshall, Louk, Adisyn Pritchard and Emily Heskett all had a field goal in the second quarter. Emilee Redburn had Marmaton Valley’s other field goal.
Marmaton Valley returns home Monday to host Jayhawk-Linn.
