Wildcats open with 4-0 sweep

MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s basketball teams rolled through the opposition Thursday, to the tune of a 4-0 record, to start the 2013 season.
The Wildcat boys rolled to wins of 47-14 over Northeast-Arma in the A-team contest and 30-26 in the B team matchup.
In girls action, Marmaton Valley won the A-team contest 20-19 in overtime. The Wildcat girls B team prevailed 16-2.
Marmaton Valley resumes action Monday at Uniontown.
In the boys A team game, Marmaton Valley outscored Northeast 22-2  in the second quarter to take control. The Wildcats were paced by Justice Pugh, who poured in 15 points, Tristan Fraker, who scored 13, and Trevor Wilson, who scored 12. Caiden Elliott added two points and Brock Hall one for the Wildcats.
The Wildcat B team trailed 10-0 after one period before tying the score at 14-14 at half-time, then outscoring Northeast 12-4 in the fourth quarter to win.
Elliott led the way with 14 points, followed by Korbin Smith with six, Gage Griffith and Isaac Heskett with four each and Trent Vest with two.

SHAYLA BROOKS scored 10 points to lead the Wildcat girls A team, including all four of Marmaton Valley’s points in the fourth quarter and overtime. The game was tied at 17-17 after regulation. Makayla Brooks chipped in with four points. Isabelle Bigelow and Trinitee Gutierrez scored three apiece.
The Wildcat B team allowed only a single field goal in the second quarter to cruise to the win.
Patricia Outlan and Paige Becker each had four points for high score honors. Carley Douglas, Emily Smart, Sarah Spillman and Kaitlyn Knavel scored two apiece.
