MVJH squads earn split at Northeast

ARMA — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s one-two punch of Justice Pugh and Trevor Wilson led the way to a Wildcat A team victory Monday. Pugh scored 19 points and Wilson 13 as the Wildcats rolled to a 53-21 win over Northeast-Arma.
The Wildcats weren’t as fortunate in the girls’ A team contest, despite the efforts of eighth-grader Trinitee Gutierrez. Gutierrez poured in 18 points, but Marmaton Valley had only 22 as a team in a 26-22 defeat.
Marmaton Valley travels to Crest on Monday.

IN THE BOYS’ A team contest, the Wildcats took the lead early and never looked back. Marmaton Valley led 10-4 after one quarter and 21-9 at intermission. The lead was at 35-19 before the Wildcats ended the game with an 18-2 run.
Tristan Fraker added six points, Korbin Smith and Isaac Heskett added four apiece, Caiden Elliott scored three and Brock Hall had two.
Northeast went into overtime to win the boys’ B team contest, 43-38. The teams were knotted at 36-36 before Northeast outscored Marmaton Valley 7-2 in overtime. Heskett scored 14 and Elliott 13 for the Wildcats. Gage Griffith chipped in with eight. Kiefer Endicott scored four and Trent Vest had one.

MARMATON VALLEY’S girls held a 6-2 lead after one quarter and a 12-6 advantage in the A team contest. Northeast pulled even, 16-16, after three quarters. Makayla Brooks scored the only four points for the Wildcats.
The Wildcat girls rolled to an 18-6 B team win after trailing 4-2 after one quarter. Marmaton Valley outscored Northeast 16-2 over the final three periods.
Paige Becker scored eight points, Shailee Woods had six and Emily Smart scored four for Marmaton Valley.
