Concerns about the rise in COVID-19 have prompted organizers to call off this year’s Iola Christmas Vespers concert.

The concert had been scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Iola’s Wesley United Methodist Church.

Meanwhile, Yates Center school officials decided Tuesday to cancel their programs and athletic events for the rest of the week.

Affected are the K-4 winter program that was to be held Tuesday, tonight’s band and choir concert for grades 6-12, middle school basketball games Thursday against Marmaton Valley and high school basketball Friday against Jayhawk-Linn.

Schools will remain in session through Friday. A mask mandate is in effect at Yates Center High School because more than 4% of the student population is infected.

Yates Center’s Christmas break begins after Friday.
