HUMBOLDT — Humboldt volunteer firefighters extinguished a house fire with no injuries late Sunday morning.

The house is the home of Greg West, who was not home when the fire was reported.

Humboldt Fire Chief Sean McReynolds said the fire may have been caused by an electrical appliance in an upstairs bedroom.

Firefighters were on the scene at 11:20 a.m. and saw flames emanating from the upstairs windows when they arrived.

They were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes, and contained the blaze to the second floor and attic, although smoke and water damage was evident throughout the rest of the home.

Thirteen firefighters in all were at the scene.

The American Red Cross has been in contact with authorities about providing assistance to the West family.

Firefighters were at the scene until about 2 p.m. to ensure no hot spots remained.
