A Mound City man was hospitalized after crashing his car north of LaHarpe just before 8 o’clock Monday morning.

The Allen County Sheriff’s Department reported Weston Cochran, 20, Mound City, was eastbound on West Virginia Road, when his car began to veer off into the ditch.

Cochran, who told deputies he had apparently dozed off while headed to work, traveled about 20 yards, taking out a pair of road signs, before the front of the car hit the far end of a small bridge culvert. The car slammed onto its roof.

Cochran, who was wearing his seat belt, was flown from the scene via helicopter to a metropolitan hospital.

Deputies said he was awake and talking with personnel after the accident.

Deputy Daren Kellerman applauded a number of passersby, who were first on the scene and stayed with Cochran until emergency personnel arrived.
