Two people suffered suspected minor injuries in a three-vehicle accident that closed off traffic along U.S. 169 north of Iola Wednesday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Matthew J. Brungardt, 28, Galesburg, was stopped while northbound on the highway, waiting to turn left onto North Dakota Road, when his 2008 Ford Mustang was hit from behind by a 2011 Ford Taurus driven by Rylan L. Miller, 18, Fort Scott.
The impact knocked the Mustang into the southbound lanes, into the path of an oncoming semitractor-trailer rig driven by Michael W. Endicott, 54, Moran.
The rig struck the passenger side of Brungardt’s car before entering the west ditch and rolling onto its side.
Brungardt and Miller were both transported to Allen County Regional Hospital for their injuries. Endicott was not hurt.
Traffic was stopped along the highway for several hours after the accident, which occurred shortly before 8 a.m., as the wreckage was cleared.
