Howard James Tidd, 81, of rural Iola died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
He was born April 24, 1929, in Neosho Falls, to Frank and Elizabeth (Diebolt) Tidd. He grew up in the Neosho Falls area and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On July 6, 1955, he married Lillie E. Blakney at Uvalde, Texas. They made their home west of Iola on a farm. He enjoyed farming, gardening and caring for his animals.
His memberships include Calvary United Methodist Church and LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife of the home; four grandsons, Donald Lee Tidd Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of the home, Roy Tidd and his wife, Sarah, of the home, and Andrew Snavely and Mark Snavely, both of rural Iola; a son, Donald Lee Sr. and his wife, Theresa, rural Iola; a son-in-law, Charles Snavely, rural Iola; three brothers, Richard Tidd and Frank Tidd, both of rural Neosho Falls, and Lawrence Tidd, Wichita; and two sisters, Marybeth Weise, Las Vegas, Nev., and Bertha Hackett, Topeka.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley A. Snavely, daughter-in-law, Tammy Tidd, grandson, Jacob Tidd and a sister, Arlene Christianson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. The Rev. Gene McIntosh will officiate. Burial will be in Iola Township Cemetery east of Piqua.
