WICHITA — Iola High golfers Xander Sellman and Titus Jones brought home top-four finishes at the Wichita Junior Golf Tour Sunday.

Sellman took second and Jones fourth in the boys ages 16-17 division, thus qualifying for the upcoming City Junior Championships.

Sellman finished one stroke behind the first-place golfer, head coach Jeremy Sellman said.

Xander Sellman learned from his past play in high school golf and prevailed even through the tortuous heat on the fairway, Jeremy Sellman noted in an email. The final two holes of the day for Sellman saw him hammer a pair of pars to claim second.

Jones, meanwhile, rebounded from some early struggles in the day.

Even better, Coach Sellman said both golfers saw their mental aspects of the game improve greatly throughout the competition.

“The fast greens and tight lies have improved their ball-striking by leaps and bounds,” Coach Sellman said.

Both of the golfers will be juniors at IHS.
