Iola Middle School hosts Santa Fe Trail

Pioneer League power Santa Fe Trail visited Iola Middle School Thursday. The Mustangs led at halftime but the Chargers took the lead for good in the second half to win, 35-27.

Iola Middle School’s boys were up to the challenge of hosting Santa Fe Trail Thursday.

The Mustang eighth-graders led 20-19 at the half before Santa Fe Trail clamped down on defense in the second half.

The Chargers pulled away for a 35-27 victory.

Iola was led by Reed Clift, who scored eight points, Colton Thompson with six and Bently Zarhouni with five.

Santa Fe Trail prevailed, 38-10, in the seventh-grade matchup. Konner Morrison scored four to lead Iola.

The Mustang junior varsity squad fell, 28-21. Brodon Westerman paced the offense with six points. Kevon Loving and Noah Anderson were next with five points each.

Iola hosts Osawatomie Monday for its home finale, with games at Anderson County Thursday and at Wellsville Feb. 12 to wrap up the 2024 season.
