After snapping a seven-game losing streak on Saturday with a win at Butler, the Allen County men were faced with a rather daunting task if they wished to keep their winning ways going.
The Red Devils welcomed No. 3 Coffeyville into Iola Monday night and despite a strong second-half rally, they fell to the top-ranked Ravens 93-77.
The loss moves the Red Devils to 13-12 and 5-11 as they enter the final four-game stretch of the regular season.
Allen went into halftime down 21 and Coffeyville stretched that to 30 early in the second half but the resilient-as-always Red Devils kicked things into overdrive and managed to cut that lead down to just four points with four minutes left to play thanks in part to hot shooting from beyond the arc.
The Red Devils went 8-13 from three in that stretch before Coffeyville had an answer of their own. The Ravens buckled down and pushed the lead back out to double-digits which proved to be too much for the Allen men to overcome.
Sophomore Perry Carroll led the team with 22 points along with seven assists and five rebounds followed by 14 for freshman Malik Hardmon, an 11 point and 11 rebound double-double for sophomore Nathan Williams, nine points for freshman Trez Hankins and seven for Jamaal Clifton.
Meanwhile, the Lady Devils struggles continued with a 56-39 loss to the Lady Ravens. The Allen women drop to 3-22 and 1-14 in KJCCC play after the loss.
Both teams will head north on Wednesday for games at Cloud County in Concordia before returning home on Saturday to play Cowley starting at 2 p.m.
