UNIONTOWN — Yates Center High had its offense clicking Thursday in a Three Rivers League showdown with Uniontown.

The Wildcats had four players with multiple RBIs in a 16-2 romp.

But that production hit a stumbling block in the second game, as Uniontown responded with a 6-2 win.

The split puts Yates Center at 10-2 on the season.

“We hit the ball well in the first game but in the second game, we struggled to get base hits,” Yates Center head coach Abbie Collins said. “We hit it right at people and left people on base.”

Molly Proper led the YC attack in Game 1 with a double and home run with three RBIs. Avery Eakin proved key as well with a single and double with four RBIs. Grace Westerman had two singles and three RBIs.

Callyn Miller singled twice, Allie Chrisman blasted a home run and Hannah Jones had a single and two RBIs.

That was more than enough for Yates Center’s Morgan Collins, who allowed two hits and struck out nine. She also had a single at the plate.

But Uniontown rallied for three in the sixth inning of the nightcap to break open a close game after the Wildcats twice left the bases loaded without scoring.

Collins led Yates Center with three hits. Proper and Miller both had a pair of hits, while Chrisman had a single. Proper was on the mound, and gave up three earned runs and eight hits, while striking out six.

Yates Center rolled to a 13-3 win in the junior varsity contest. Eakin was the winning pitcher. She gave up three hits with nine strikeouts.
