YATES CENTER — Even without a full deck, Yates Center High’s softball team has stayed on the right track this season.
The Wildcats improved to 5-1 Thursday with a sweep of Uniontown, prevailing 14-6 and 17-10.
“The girls are hitting the ball really well,” Yates Center head coach Abbie Collins said. “We just need to sharpen up some things on defense.
“We have had some girls playing out of position due to some quarantine issues so I have been very proud of them for stepping up,” she continued. “We will have everyone back on Monday so hopefully we can get everyone back to their normal positions.”
Molly Proper was the primary catalyst in Game 1. She went 4-for-4 with a home run, while allowing only two hits with six strikeouts on the mound. Allie Chrisman and Addie Solander added three hits apiece. Hannah Jones, Grace Westerman and Izzy Lewis each had a hit.
THE HIT parade continued in the nightcap. Proper picked up four more hits, as did Jones. Proper struck out 11 Uniontown batters to get the win.
Chrisman added three hits, including a home run, and racked up five RBIs.
Callyn Miller and Emma Grogg followed with three and two hits, respectively. Westermand and Solander had one hit apiece.
IN BASEBALL action, Yates Center dropped the opener to Uniontown, 11-1, before bouncing back to win, 16-5, in the nightcap. No other statistics were available.
