FORT SCOTT — Roughly 7,000 wreaths will be placed at grave sites at the Fort Scott National Cemetery as part of its Wreaths Across America service.
The 10 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13, will take about two hours to complete.
LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary volunteers will then head to Iola on Sunday, where they’ll place wreaths at the veterans’ stones at Highland Cemetery at about 1 p.m., and then at Civil War veterans’ stones at the old Iola Cemetery.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed the date of the Highland Cemetery and old Iola Cemetery wreath laying event. It has been updated to reflect the correct day of the event.
