Local effort to preserve Civil War legacy shared

A local group’s efforts to connect modern generations with the stories of their Civil War ancestors will be the focus Saturday of the Allen County Historical Society’s fall meeting.

Rocky Ansell, commander of Humboldt’s Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 9, will discuss the background of the SUVCW, which is a national organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the soldiers and sailors who fought to preserve the Union during the Civil War.

Under Ansell’s leadership, Camp 9 works to educate the public, preserve historical records and participate in commemorative events across the region.

The Historical Society’s business meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Frederick Funston Meeting Hall, 207 N. Jefferson Ave. Ansell’s program begins at 2 o’clock.

The Historical Society will provide snacks and refreshments for the event, and the program will be recorded and put on the ACHS Facebook and YouTube pages.

The public is invited.
