ARMA — Marmaton Valley HIgh’s softball team ran into a Viking-sized buzzsaw on the road Tuesday.
The unbeaten Northeast-Arma Vikings improved to 16-0 with 20-0 and 16-1 victories.
The setbacks drop Marmaton Valley to 3-11 on the year.
Northeast set the tone in the first inning of the opener, retiring the Wildcats on three straight strikeouts to start the frame, and then scoring 14 in the bottom half.
Payton Scharff was the only Wildcat batter to reach base in three innings, with a walk.
Scharff also pitched, surrendering five hits.
Scharff’s leadoff double in the second inning of game 2 led to the Wildcats’ only run of the nightcap.
Problem was, Northeast had already plated eight by then, and tackled on three more in the second and five in the third.
Marmaton Valley’s Haylee Lanham handled the pitching duties, allowing a single over two innings.
Northeast batters took advantage of four hit-by-pitches and 12 walks.
