The Yates Center Wildcats annihilated the Altoona-Midway Jets 48-15 on Monday,  while evening their Three Rivers League record to 4-4 ahead of Tuesday’s contest against Uniontown.

Holding the Jets to just 3 points in the first quarter, then scoreless in the second, the Wildcats cruised to victory on the heels of double-digit scoring performances by senior forward Kinley Morrison and junior guard Cayten Cummings.

Morrison got the Wildcats rolling early with 6 points in the first quarter, then five more points in the second. Cummings’s production was more spread out while McKynzee Burkholder had a breakout performance with 8 points — all coming in the first half.

Recent Allen County Area Athlete of the Month nominee Jayda Rice, a junior forward, also had a strong night with 6 points spread across three quarters.

Rice tied junior guard Jaylin Birk for third in team scoring. Freshman Loryn Kress also got in on the action, coming off the bench for 5 points in the second half.

With the win, the Wildcats continue climbing the TRL standings.

They host Uniontown (10-4, 7-3) Tuesday, then head on the road Thursday for a game against Pleasanton (13-1, 10-0), who currently owns the top spot in the TRL.

At press time, Tuesday’s results were not available.

Tip-off for Thursday’s contest is at 6 p.m.
